HIP PAIN:
WEAR AND TEAR OF CARTILAGE:
In osteoarthritis, the cartilage in the hip joint gradually wears away over time. As the cartilage wears away, it becomes frayed and rough, and the protective joint space between the bones decreases. This can result in bone rubbing on bone.
LAXITY OF LIGAMENTS AND TENDONS:
Hip instability is a loose or wobbly hip joint that’s usually caused by problems with the ligaments (the bands of connective tissue that hold bones or joints together). In hip dislocation, the ball at the end of the thigh bone is pushed out of the socket. This painful condition requires medical treatment.
OSTEOARTHRITIS/DEGENERATIVE JOINT DISORDER:
Osteochondritis dissecans can occur in different joints, including the hip and ankle, but 75 percent of cases affect the knee. Signs and symptoms of OCD include: inflammation, swelling, and soreness in the joint catching and locking in the joint during movement.
LABRAL TEAR:
A labral tear results when a part of the labrum separates or pulls away from the socket. Most commonly, a labral tear is the result of repetitive stress (loading) irritating the hip, often due to long-distance running or performing repeated, sharp, sports movements, such as twisting and cutting.
HIP BURSITIS/TENDONITIS:
Tendons connect muscles to bones. When these strong cords of tissue become inflamed in your hip, it causes discomfort, swelling and pain. Tendonitis is typically caused by injury, strain or overuse—including too much exercise. Hip tendonitis can also indicate a bigger health problem such as diabetes, infection or rheumatoid arthritis. It’s important to make an appointment with your physician if you are suffering from tendon pain in your hip. Bursae are small, fluid-filled pads between the joints. They serve as a cushion between the bones, tendons and muscles. When bursae become inflamed, a painful condition called bursitis occurs. Bursitis most commonly occurs in the hip, shoulder and elbow—joints that frequently perform repetitive motion.
